Starting my internship at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) marks a significant transition in my journey as an MSc Clinical Psychology student. After years of studying theory, reading case studies, and preparing myself academically, stepping into a real clinical setting feels both exciting and a little overwhelming.
This new chapter brings with it a mix of emotions. There's eagerness to apply what I’ve learned, to observe clinical work up close, and to learn from seasoned professionals. At the same time, I’m aware of the responsibility and sensitivity that this field demands — we are not just dealing with symptoms, but with real people, their pain, their resilience, and their hope.
Adapting to this new environment involves adjusting to a different rhythm — clinical schedules, interdisciplinary teamwork, patient interactions, and maintaining a professional mindset even in emotionally charged situations. It’s challenging, but it’s also deeply rewarding. Every day teaches something new — not just about psychopathology or diagnosis, but about empathy, patience, and the value of listening without judgment.
There’s also a personal shift happening. I can feel myself growing — becoming more observant, more reflective, and gradually more confident. There are still moments of self-doubt, of questioning whether I’m doing enough or doing it right, but I remind myself that learning is a process. This is the space where growth happens — in between discomfort and effort.
I’m grateful for this opportunity at IHBAS, and I look forward to the insights, skills, and experiences that will shape me not just as a future clinical psychologist, but as a more grounded and compassionate human being.
